When I met my husband 40 years ago, I barely knew how to cook anything beyond canned food and macaroni and cheese. My sister, fearing I would perish from a steady diet of junk food, sent me my very first cookbook.
In true Trish fashion, I set a challenge for myself: no repeating recipes from that book for an entire year. My backup plan? Keep the pizza place number close at hand.
Over that year, my confidence grew. I started to understand flavor pairings and experiment with ingredients. I also discovered that I was a truly terrible baker for quite a while—but we’ll just skip that chapter.
Fast forward to 1994, when The Kitchen Witch’s Cookbook appeared in bookstores. That book became the foundation for many others focused on cooking, brewing, canning, and barbecue.
Along the way, I also began creating recipes for online blogs. For a single client, I wrote approximately 1,000 pieces. Another client still keeps me busy with a similar tally. WHEW.
So when I saw the Favorite Chef competition, I thought… why not? A little fun never hurts.
