Anthony Bourdain Day

June 25, 2026, would have been Anthony Bourdain's 70th birthday. Today, I'd like to honor his memory.
Anthony Bourdain was a world-renowned chef, author, and television personality who opened the world's cookbook for me and millions of viewers. Perhaps the Smithsonian described him best: "the original rock star" of cuisine.
Bourdain's style was curious, blunt, educational, and deeply human. Whether speaking on television or writing, he was fearless in his storytelling. He illuminated the anthropology of food, celebrated cultural traditions, and embraced the role of the wanderer. If you asked for an opinion, he gave it honestly and without fluff.
Watching his shows, I could feel his passion for food and his respect for the people who prepared it. He elevated cooking beyond recipes, transforming it into an exploration of culture, history, and humanity. His travels often highlighted communities and destinations that many people might never otherwise encounter, giving them a voice and a place at the table.
Those humble meals shared across continents reminded us that food is a universal language capable of building bridges where words sometimes fail.
On June 8, 2018, the culinary world lost one of its most distinctive voices, a “secret sauce” for living boldly. Anthony Bourdain remains deeply missed, but his legacy continues every time we sit down with curiosity, share a meal, and learn from one another.
